Book: Whistling Bagpipes
Review Score: 3-stars; Liked it!
Author: Irene Radford
Genre: Fiction, Mystery/Crime
Places Featured: Mt. Hood, Oregon
Like all good cozy mystery series, Whistling Bagpipes has an amateur detective heroine, some fun characters (who are all possible suspects, of course), an interesting murder that requires some sleuthing to solve, and some complicated romance on the side.
Whistling Bagpipes is the third installment of the Whistling River Lodge Mystery series, a cozy mystery series centered around Glenna McClain, the general manager of the Whistling River Lodge, a fictional resort in a fictional community in the foothills of Mt. Hood, Oregon.
In this book, the lodge is hosting The Grand Festival of Highland Arts and Games, full of bagpipe-playing, whiskey-drinking, kilt-wearing attendees who wreak havoc in the resort. So Glenna’s hands are already full with the guests when the head judge is found dead…then two love interests come around to help.
It’s a nice light read with just enough action and interesting characters to keep me engaged. I haven’t read the other two in the series–that didn’t hinder my understanding of the story, but I’m also not going to rush out to read them.
I had hoped for a little more description of the Mt. Hood area (this site is about travel books after all), but there was enough to pique my interest about the beauty of the area.
*I was given this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
