As you might have guessed, Aunty Lee is the likable heroine featured in Aunty Lee’s Delights, the first in a series of Singaporean Mysteries. She is a widow who has found her calling in a restaurant serving home-made local dishes to locals and tourists in busy Singapore.
When a body is found in a popular tourist destination that might be linked to her restaurant’s wine pairing dinner hosted with her son-in-law, like any good curious heroine, Aunty Lee begins to investigate. The list of dinner attendees (a good list of suspects) and a perplexing victim add to the mystery.
This is one of those books that I would describe as “fine.” The mystery isn’t particularly intriguing, but it was enough to keep me reading. Many of the characters are under-developed, but I was still curious about what happened to them. You don’t learn very much about Singapore, but the food does sound delicious.
If you’re looking for something easy with a likeable main character and you have an interest in Singapore, you’ll enjoy this. If you’re not, skip it.
