Between my 32 years of traveling, the hundreds of adventures I’ve taken, and the thousands of travelers I’ve met, I’ve discovered that even if we all share the a desire for travel and experience, we all have a different kind of motivation.

This varying motivation for travel has created an opportunity for uniqueness in the travel industry—something called niche or specialty travel.  (There are all kinds of travel agents and websites based on whatever your travel interest.)

Some people who travel are looking for opportunities that take them on an adventure that will test their bodies—they tend to be attracted to Fitness or Adventure travel.  Some people really enjoy travel that tests their palettes—they’re the ones that look for travel based on Food & Wine.  Others prefer travel that takes them on a spiritual journey (Spiritual Travel), a journey of self-discovery (Self Change Travel) or travel where they’re able to contribute to the world (Volunteer Travel).

Each one has a unique place in the travel world and an even uniquer (yeah, I know it’s not really a word) place in the world of travel literature and film.  For those of you that are drawn to a particular type of travel, we’ve got you covered here—even if you can’t go on a trip every week, you can still find a similar sense of adventure and joy in a book or movie.
